2009 brought me a few firsts....
-I graduated from college, earned my bachelor's degree!
-Got my first "big girl" job! (Made a lot of great new friends!)

I was reading a blog earlier tonight and I found this quote: "Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you with whatever hard things come up when the time comes."

For 2010...
-I will try my best not to get worked up about things before they happen.
-I will stop second guessing myself.

Rain, rain go away...

No, it's not raining..but I have been trying to find the perfect rain jacket. But the catch is I don't want to spend 300 dollars on one.---very hard since I have a million requirements for my jacket.

...plus standing out on the bus lot for after school duty..in the rain...has gotten to me. Having an umbrella does not always work!!

Does anybody have any suggestions?

Here's one I've been eyeing...

...this one too, I love the lining..

Feeling Crafty.

It has been quite a while since I've felt "crafty"--partly because I haven't had the time--and because when I start a project I like to finish it in one sitting.

Craft 1: "Hall Passes"--I've been giving the students in my class a laminated index card anytime that they needed to leave the room.--Totally boring, and very unoriginal. So, I wanted to spruce up the normal hall pass. --This craft I hope to finish today! As soon as I'm done I will be sure to post the "finished" project. Here's a peak of the "before."

Craft 2: My extended family picks names for Christmas. There are so many of us... so it makes it easier if we only have to buy a gift for one person! This year I got my cousin Savannah's name. She is my cousin Julie and her husband Chris' adorable three year old! I decided part of her gift would be a dress! I haven't started on it, but here's a look at the fabric for the dress! Enjoy!

My ritual.

>> Saturday, November 28, 2009

So, generally Friday nights are considered my "calm down" evenings. I say this because work can be very hectic at times and Monday through Friday is non-stop! Don't get me wrong, I love my job...but sometimes I need that time to gather my thoughts and just do anything but work.

The Northlake/Huntersville area is about 15 minutes away so I like to go there on Fridays. There is a Target (LOVE!) there, and that's where I generally start first! Well, in the back of the store in electronics is where I spend most of my time. So, you ask why? I love to sample the new music. Last week I probably stood there for about 3o minutes (no exaggeration) listening to the new Christmas music! Well it's not "new" music, but it's new mixes. They have classic Christmas music and rock Christmas and other types of CDS. My first thought went to what CD can I buy for my classroom. For the last week we've been listening to holiday music..I bet my assistant is going to pull out her hair by the end of the holidays because I've overplayed holiday music!! I decided it was time for a new mix. So, I settled on 2..and let me tell you, only coming out with 2 was a very hard decision! I got a "Crooner Christmas" CD and a kids Christmas sing along CD. I wish I could find the CDs online but I can't right now.

New Moon

(Have you seen it?)
Or maybe you haven't because you're not into the whole "vampire" thing. Well normally I'm not either. But, my friend Keri dragged me to the midnight showing of Twilight last year. And needless to say, I saw New Moon the day that it came out!

and the verdict is...It was a great movie!

For the last few months I've known the next installment of the Twilight series (New Moon) was coming out. So every time I would go into Target I would browse through the book section and check out the new books. I would always stop myself from purchasing one because let's be realistic..I have no time to start reading a book! But, last week about 4 days before the new movie came out I talked myself into purchasing Twilight. And well you guessed it..it's been about a week and I still have not even started page one. And here I am at home, doing nothing...and I left my book in Charlotte :( Hopefully my Mom has some good books I can borrow!

Let me know your thoughts! Are you into the whole "Team Jacob, Team Edward" thing?

To my Mom

>> Monday, November 9, 2009

So, my Mom is not one for my random jokes. Apparantly, she thinks I could be spending some of my "free-time" in a more "structured" manner.

When I sent her these pictures she was none too thrilled!--And to add she's probably even more thrilled that I decided to share these on my blog. (Because I'm acting "oh so lady like"--haha)
And according to my Mother, a more structured "free time" would include cooking (insert sarcasm here, "Ok, Mom, because I really need to focus on eating....")

In conclusion, I decided to focus on my blog. For the next few posts, I'll be focusing on MONOGRAMMING at its finest! --I'll be including some unique gift ideas that I have found over the years that include the best personalized gift ever, MONOGRAMMING!

Enjoy, here is the first!

KOOZIE'S

There are many things that one must keep in mind when purchasing the perfect Koozie!
EXHIBIT A: Ribbon?

or No Ribbon?

(Images found here: http://www.lollipopsandgumdropsboutique.com/y6052.html#)

EXHIBIT B: Finding the right font.
I always have a hard time deciding on a font too. I've found that the best font to stick with is curlz.

You may be asking, "Theresa, why curlz font?"

Well, in response I would say, "Well, my lovely reader... Curlz font is super cute, mixed with a dash of sophistication, and includes just an overall sense of fun!"

EXHIBIT C

Ask yourself: "What is the purpose of my Koozie?"

Drinking water?

Drinking canned soda?

Drinking bottled soda?

Comments, questions, concerns??

Lastly, always remember...

Monogramming, It's a way of life!

School

>> Sunday, September 27, 2009

My first thought when I began to write today was to complain (I'm tired, I'm overwhelmed, My head hurts from thinking, I don't know what I'm doing)--all of these things came to mind.

But, like I've been taught in school (when writing an IEP), I must also focus on something positive too. So I stopped and thought..
The one good thing about teaching is, I love my students. They are all great and have their own funny personalities and make me laugh each day!

This is how it is, I'll complain the entire way of never having enough time in the day to get everything done, but I won't stop. There are times that I will be completely lost and absolutely hate it, but I will continue.

In conclusion, I was reading someone's blog and I found this quote quite helpful.

"We're not necessarily doubting that God will do the best for us; we're wondering how painful the best will turn out to be."C.S. Lewis

I want to sew right now, it may help me get things off my mind---but I can guarantee the entire time I'll be thinking of my to do list and how nothing is getting accomplished.

So, I'm back to the overwhelmed stage of work at school.

Philippians 4:6-7
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Psalm 73:26
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.

Teaching is going great! It gets better each day.

Last Tuesday (the 25th)--I was SUPER SUPER freaking out, I did not feel prepared at all.
-But about 15 minutes into meeting my kids I relaxed and things really turned around for me.

And slowly but surely, I feel more comfortable. I'm still overwhelmed, but it is manageable.

Here's a picture from the other week when we went out for my friend Jill's Birthday!

(hollie, jill, me, laura)
ps, see that dress jill's wearing?
i totally made it!!!

A few weeks ago I went home for my sister's graduation from college!!

So, I got my first Big Girl Job!! (It sounds so juvenile when I add a title to it like that...but it's still true!). I am an official Middle School Special Education Teacher!!--And I have my first work day tomorrow!!

When I was looking for a job the unknown of it all really scared me.....And now that I have a job I have turned that in for a whole set of new worries..

But, we will see hopefully once I get in my classroom some of my worries will be alleviated!

I don't have internet at my apartment right now...and I really hate it. I am currently sitting at Starbucks people watching and making my way through my daily website list!

I have an interview tomorrow at a Middle School in Charlotte. I don't know what I'm more worried about...teaching in general or teaching at a Middle School? I guess we'll see.

...I really like this verse. He knows my thoughts includes my fears and my hopes.

Adding a bow.

>> Thursday, August 6, 2009

My friend Jill's birthday is next week! So, as part of her gift I decided to make her one of my towel wraps! She just moved into a new apartment and has painted her new room a light blue-- and has brown and tan as accent colors. We were at Hobby Lobby the other day and I had her pick out a matching ribbon and towel that she liked. (As you can guess this is not a SURPRISE gift!)

Well I finished her wrap today and here it is!

Voila!--a cute towel wrap!

Close up of the bow at the top! I have my wonderful roommate Chantal to thank for this bow. Originally I put some plain ribbon at the top--but it did not look right AT ALL. So Chantal suggested I put a bow at the top.--But, I kept the bow simple (I didn't want the "tassels" hanging down the bow because I was afraid if it got washed they would fray) and I very happy with it!
